Only Widows Know Which Tie for the Casket

9/12/2025

We widows know the path Erika Kirk, wife of Charlie Kirk, now treads. We vividly remember the first minute, the first hour, the first day…the shock we were in, the sleeplessness, the pain, and YET…

…there were tasks we HAD to perform from the first second: telling our children, his parents, our family and friends, seeing his body, selecting the clothes he would wear in the casket, planning the funeral, tapping the speakers, handpicking the music and Bible verses, choosing a cemetery plot and picking a gravestone (with our name on it, too!), finding a caterer for the reception, deciding on flowers for the altar and the casket, writing his obituary, and the multitude of other unimaginable tasks that fall directly on our lap when our spouse leaves us too soon. Tasks we barely can handle–THANK GOD FOR FRIENDS!!–and yet, we’re the only one that can make these decisions.

Our family and friends are gracious and helpful, but only we know which tie he would want to wear in the casket.
