On This Ugly Morning

We’re angry, I get it. But snide remarks that alienate only make us feel better in the moment. Every good person, regardless of worldview, wants this to stop (school shootings).

Mature individuals seek common ground, rational discourse, and they truly desire change, while at the same time they are open to new ways of thinking.

Immature individuals deliver “hit piece” posts that stick a proverbial bird in the air at others. Hatred doesn’t solve problems, it throws gas on the inferno.

I have been disheartened by so many infantile and snotty social media posts and comments, especially from fellow Christians. Again, I understand that they are angry. But, if we don’t figure out how to come together and put aside our politics and talking points, we will never come close to solutions, and we will cause further division and stoke ire at one another.

I have never in my life seen a need for God so tangible in people’s hearts. When we put God first in our hearts and minds when dealing with each other and situations, we can work through issues and create solutions. If we don’t, we only end up bitter and isolated.

On this ugly morning, grief is palpable. For me personally, my grief is, as called in the Dexter universe, my own “dark passenger.” My late husband Howard flits through my thoughts in most of my waking moments and even in my dreams. Sometimes as a happy memory and sometimes as a cruel stab that clenches my gut that he’s not here. I can’t even imagine what those poor parents and families are going through. But I know the shock, the terror and the out-of-control panic that leaves you gasping for air as your heart races and your mind breaks. It’s surreal and too real at the same time.

So, my prayer this morning for all of us is that we seek Him, we reach out to each other, we set aside the petty for the benevolent, and that we hug our loved ones and tell them we love them because we won’t know it’s the last time until there aren’t any more times.

God bless you all!
